more mea weekend

The kids booby trapped the living room.  I'm not sure why.  I crawled through and said, "I hope you all are going to pick this up again."  They said they were going to.

Riiiight.

Alicia's mom was a good sport in the cold--good thing she has lots of jackets and warm shoes.  I didn't have either.  I have a fluffy cashmere sweater that I like. I didn't realize it'd have to worn every day, but yeah.  Plus some gigantic jacket from American Eagle--one of the cabin coats that we leave there for weekends just like this, for unprepared people.

And keeping track of the mittens and boots, and the masks for their little faces--that was a work out for the parents.

There they are, pretty girls.

mea weekend

It was the coldest MEA weekend ever.  We persevered, and the kids were good sports, and we all had a good time.

They burned the brush pile.  It was a good weekend for a fire.

And it was warm and cozy in the house, good food, cards, movies.

Love you all, MOM aka Grandma

happy birthday, m

It was such a delicious meal and such a fun night.

We love you so much, and hope it's a wonderful year.

Happy Birthday, Maria

monday night

While I was frosting Maria's birthday cake, I assigned him to sort the Tupperware.

Tim had refused, said it was a pointless task.

Well, it might be. I brought back all the containers and lids from the lake. We have to get it all together in one place, for heaven's sakes.

He was so annoyed and unhappy, ran his mouth the whole time.

La-la-la, I can't hear you.

If you want all your Tupperware and containers sorted, this plumber knows how to do it. Sort. Rectangles with rectangle lids, square with square, round with round. Boom. Get it done.

Okay, good night, lots of love, Val

a fun project

So, we live like this. These are the cupboards from Joe and Heidi's house from 2010 that were removed and later attached to the walls here at the lake.

It's all clutter like most cupboards are if you open up the doors.

Yeesh!

Slam!

We have the cupboard doors, and last weekend I exhumed the little cupboard doors for the cabinet over the stove.

I sanded them DOWN. I sanded until my hands were numb and achy and stiff.  I sampled the stain, but that revealed resistant areas I had not sanded off, so I began again.

Joe said they'd be hard to paint smoothly because of the texture of the grain and he was right.  Sanded entirely, they stained great.  I rubbed on coats of tung oil and beautiful.

A before picture:
More cupboard doors are on deck for this weekend.
