This was the doorway to the school room years ago. When we built onto the family room, we added the second side of the French door that had been up in the garage, made a big doorway. 

But the door to the school room had all the glass panes filled in with thin wood, so I pried all that out of there, and ever since 2006 the door has been without any glass.

Tim said if I got the glass, he'd put it in, so I ordered it at the hardware store, 20 panes of glass in this very specific size, cost $72, which I thought was a bargain.

First he set out all the pieces I'd saved and labeled, trying to discern if there was a pattern that made sense, but in the end it didn't matter.  He sanded the ends of the pieces that were tight and glued all the pieces that were cracked.

And it is done, took him about six hours.

Look at that!!

 So happy. Beautiful work, Tim.  Beautiful.

I've been wanting to make it to a show all summer, and finally we made it.

It was a laid back, fun time, sitting on the hill in the breeze beside the river, watching the show.

So many talented performers, was a great show.

Its been an impressive year, full of opportunities and changes and you've been up for it.

It's amazing how a cool, interesting kid can become a conscientious thoughtful man.

Here's hoping the year ahead is just as full of good things.

pictures from last weekend

Heidi brought up this little pool for the backyard and it was a hit.  They filled it with warm water from the shower house, so they swam a long time.

These plants.  I spent a lot of money on them a few years ago, like forty dollars each.  They struggled to get going. Then the siding guys busted them off flat with the ground, destroyed.  It has taken a couple years for them to recover this much.

But this year a flower!  A pretty pink flower!  We suspect they need more sun, but that's not happening on this side of the cabin.  This is progress anyway.

And this--two years ago I divided a chunk off the hosta on the other side of the steps and we watered it and tended it, and it's taking off.  

But now I think the doggone deer attacked it.  Hostas are tough.  It'll be back better than ever next year and might even recover this year.
