happy birthday tim

 It was a great party, perfect summer night.

Its been an impressive year, full of opportunities and changes and you've been up for it.

It's amazing how a cool, interesting kid can become a conscientious thoughtful man.

Here's hoping the year ahead is just as full of good things.

We love you like crazy.

a funny story

This is a great picture of these two guys, a nephew and his uncle, both having survived their first semester in the dorms, in two schools not that far away from each other.

It's all good.

But this is the funny story we heard at Christmas:

The nephew was watching a movie late in the evening, minding his business, when he got a text, "Time for you to get ready for bed."

He was stumped.  Jeez. Sometimes.  My parents.

Then he realized it was NOT from them, it was from DAN.

Why in the world would Dan be sending him to bed? What does he care?  

Sheesh, I'm in college!

Dan was texting his own kids and this guy was in the text loop from something else.

Oh my goodness, this cracked me up so much.

Yeah, it's good to have uncles, I agree.

moving day

Today we moved Tim into his dorm!

 

You got the big cart with the twirly wheels, got all his belongings up to the room, and it is a very nice room in this new bright new building.

Storms were moving in and the clouds got worse and worse.   I took this while we were walking to the University Center to have supper. They were hosting family members today, and it is a brand new dining area with a big menu, lots of space. 

It was great.

But then the tornado sirens went off and they herded us all into a back area of the basement, away from the windows.  It wasn't that long and there was no damage on the campus or in town, so apparently the tornado went to the north.

Anyway, after that we walked back across campus in the soft, warm rain and dropped him back off again and said good bye.   He's a very quiet man, but even so the house feels extra  quiet tonight.

Tim, thank you for all the happiness you've brought us, for your friendship and patience, your skills, your sense of humor, and all the ways you make everything better.

concerts

Tim had two concerts, the jazz concert and the regular one. Both were wonderful.

He mentioned these may be his last band concerts.  

  Anyway a couple of beautiful evenings.

It was a long concert, so much good music.

I'm sure it was a ton of work to prepare that much music and play it so well.
