the weekend #2

Joe cut up all that wood.

Heavens to Bob that's a lot of wood.

We went on a lovely, squirrely boat ride with a restless puppy who paced, and kids who got bored and wanted to go fast and then wanted to go home, and something about this all makes me so happy.

It's the way kids never change, generation after generation, predictably so perfect.

Swimming and skiing made for a pretty nice Sunday.

She kept asking John to toss her high above the water.   He did it a lot of times, but that's good exercise.

And here's a kid chatting with his two grandpas, Jay on the left, and Alicia's dad on the right.  We are so glad they bought a cabin up at the lake with us.

Last night they were the only others up at the lake with us when the storms hit. They were out fishing and had to run for it.  We were getting ready to go out to eat and had to postpone those plans.

And then the power went out.

Of course.  It's wires all strung overhead through the woods. The power goes out at the least little thing.

After we got back from eating, I filled five gallon buckets with water and hauled them in the wagon to each bathroom so we could flush the toilets, while Jay got the generator going and power cords strung to keep the fridge, a lamp, the TV, and the internet going.

Then? The electricity came back on.

But it was a good test run, and once you're in the dark, it is almost impossible to do these things.

Anyway, it was a great weekend.

Love, Val
