look, look!

There it is.

I think this type of caterpillar turns into a Mourning Cloak butterfly.

We'll find out.

  1. Val, we have a black swallowtail in a jar on a stick just like that! I think we're due to hatch in two more weeks. Caught the caterpillar in the garden.

  2. Oh, take pictures! Black swallowtail? I have to go look that up.

I love caterpillars and butterflies. Tim was so matter-of-fact telling me about the cocoon, but I was all excited.

Our next door neighbor taught me about monarchs, and then I was hooked.

A year later, we had cecropia moths, amazing.

Caterpillars are so strange and miraculous.

  3. Last night Henry and I noticed unsavory looking changes in the crysalis. We worried and shrugged. This morning when Riley checked there was a fully dried gorgeous butterfly! It was so exciting! And beautiful! I'll post pictures ... somewhere. Maybe on fb. What fun. :o)
