a pretty cold tuesday

It's only about ten degrees out. We can feel it all through the house--the drafts when the doors aren't shut tight, the cold floors in some of the rooms.

Winter is nice for looking at--the way the snow and air turn that special periwinkle blue at dusk, the crystal sparkle of ice in the sunshine, the way snowdrifts look like frosting.

Being actually IN winter is another story.   It's better to just look at it.

This I found on the wall in my room.

Apparently it is a calender someone made to count down the days until Christmas.

Here we are, doing a little work.

The floor in the family room is never cold.

This guy--he does this to the chair. That can't be comfortable.

After he almost tipped the big chair over, I told him to go sit on the Dora chair.  It'd be less hazardous.

I'm not sure it really was.  The bouncy-ness of it kind of carried him away.

After they did some math, we moved on to these lame reading comprehension worksheets, just for the heck of it.

I'd read the little story and then ask them the questions, they'd circle the answers.

The first couple went all right.

Then they realized the story was WAAAY funnier with the WRONG answers.

Anyway, giddy kids making a farce of their workbooks while they wait for Christmas on a cold day?

Good enough.  Perfect.

And see this little wool rug under Lydia's feet?   I bought that a few weeks ago because the floor is so cold in this room, and the area rug doesn't reach all the way under the chair.

Oh, tonight am I ever glad.

Onward to Wednesday.    love, Val
