the science kit

The science kit came out tonight. He went nuts with it.

It's vinegar and baking soda in the little tube. The reaction is what launches the rocket.

They assembled this funny mobile of the solar system too.  I don't think it's to scale.

They launched it numerous times, trying to get the balance of vinegar to baking soda adjusted for best launch.

Okay, this is just terrible though--a spectacular launch that hit the ceiling and splashed vinegar in her eye!  It hurt like the devil for a few minutes. Dang.

He came racing back with goggles from last summer.

And the videos:

In this one, notice Tim hiding behind the cupboard, way over on the left side.

Also notice the green head on the cupboard. That was last night's project, another Christmas gift.

It's a kit where you make snack mix and pretend it's the brain and the eyeballs and stuff, a zombie kit.  Nothing says heavenly peace and holy angels like a zombie kit, right?

The second video is a proper launch, very fun.

These videos made me laugh, it's true.

And yet the best laughter of the whole day was when Tim read us Green Eggs and Ham. This book was a Christmas present, and apparently, ninth child that he is, he slipped through the cracks.

He'd never heard Green Eggs and Ham before and he thought it was hilarious.

"Green eggs and ham? Who would ever want to eat that?"

And on the page where Sam-I-Am says, "Say! In the dark! Would you, could you in the dark?"

He just roared, "What would the dark make any difference?"

And when he says, "Could you, would you with a goat?" and opens the hatch to reveal a full-grown goat, that had him cracking up too.

"Did he have a goat shoved in there the whole time? For what? He's driven up a tree and now he wonders why the guy isn't hungry?"

Anyway, I was kicked back on the couch laughing my head off too.

As if I haven't heard this story dozens of times--it was all new today, wonderfully, hilariously new, p.j. bouncing all over us while he read.

Thank you all you crazy squirrels for being mine. I could not love you more. love, Mom
