first trip to the little pool

Today!   When it was time to get ready, I noticed p.j. had dumped out her entire bag, as she tends to do most days.  Except SAM had flopped down all over the child's clothing.   Why?  Sam wouldn't say.

We parked the car over at Kirsten's and walked down the block to the pool.  The pool is the same as ever, enamel paint and big yellow umbrella.  The neighborhood babies changed from infants to toddlers, and their brothers and sisters got a little taller, but that's all.  Oh, and the pool attendant, Erica--she's all grown up and has moved on into an adult job.

Aww. I definitely missed her today--her smile, her sleeves rolled up, her little comments.

Here's a girl getting supervised by her grandma.

Happy--they were so happy.  By August last year the pool was boring them.  But not today.  Check back in two months, right?

 Heidi came after work:

Owie toe:
Then Heidi and Kirsten came back for supper, and these guys came too.  Jay grilled burgers.  Julia asked me whose birthday it was?

No birthday, no occasion.

I called Dannell and asked if she and John wanted to join us. She said it took her three hours in rush hour to get across town last night for softball.  THREE hours.  She took a pass.    I agree.  Normally it might take an hour.  The road construction has become intolerable.

However, m.c. had a doctor's appointment yesterday regarding her injured foot.  All is well, no problems.  She cannot bear any weight on it for at least another four weeks.  That's fine--good to know.  Let those tendons heal.

This is why they all needed baths before they left.

And I found this just too sweet.   He was absentmindedly feeling Tim's hair.  Someone asked him if it felt like a dog?  He looked confused.   I went over there and told him I think Tim's hair feels like a little rabbit, silky like mink.

He frowned at me and kept running his fingers through Tim's hair.

Now it's after 11 pm, and it's still 85 gorgeous, balmy degrees out.   Summer? You finally made it here.  We were starting to worry you'd never find the way.

love you all so, Mom
