first day of school, 2013

So first of all, could not figure out why the pictures were red.   What setting was inadvertently chosen that did THIS?

 Fixed it.  Thank goodness.

Here they're working on writing.  Getting  Tim writing is a goal for this year.  Last year it was getting him reading, which he now does, but writing takes a little practice too.  He's good at things. He'll get the hang of it pretty fast, I think.

We go out for lunch on the first day of school--sometimes McDonalds and eat at the park--but this year the bees are intense, so we went to Applebee's.  On the way out, we took the First Day of School Pictures:

Grade 8--last year of homeschool:
 Just cute, no grade yet.

She says she's in 4th grade.  I thought it was 3rd.   I'm still not sure, but we're saying 4th for now.

 Grade 5:
Here are a couple pictures from an antsy, energetic little lunch.   Delicious, true.

Then we came home and did some art since p.j. had brought her own brand new paint set.  We have a whole drawer full of paint sets and soft pastel crayons.  Lydia was just not in the mood--not at all.  Some days are like that.  We can do art whenever we want.  Maybe another day.

We did leaf prints too.  It's been years since we last did these and it was fun.  We had a bit of tempera powder downstairs.   Maybe we have to do this again another day too, get some more colors.  Probably should hurry up though--it requires green, fresh leaves.

We ended with some math.  The kids dragged out old workbooks and were back to speed again pretty fast after not having touched it since June.

Lydia though?

Math is not working for us.   I'm thinking we need a different book.  The fact we couldn't find the 8th grade book kind of strikes me as a sign.

I have to think about this.

Not much to think about, I suppose, since the book is missing.  Finding an alternative is the only option.

Onward.

love all you kids so, MOM

  1. Henry likes Khan Academy. Lydia might like it too? Its online, free, and you work at your own pace beginning at your own level. They offer K - calculus, I think.
    love, K
