remember these?

These are stickers I found in the closet earlier in the week.    Just for fun, I put them on ebay to see if anyone wanted them.  Starting bid:  one cent.

No takers.   Time to give them to the kids--as long as they don't stick them to any furniture.

Oh yeah, the 70s were weird, very weird.

I am so very, very glad it's now.  Now is so much better than then was.

Girls' sports teams didn't exist for most sports.   Hard to believe, but true.  Now that would be considered almost immoral.   I like now.

Once upon a time, we had no cell phones. There was one phone in a house, a rotary dial, probably in the kitchen.   And if a person were lucky there was an extension phone somewhere else in the house.  (Same phone number--and you could pick up that phone and eavesdrop on other conversations--but usually the other person could tell there was someone else on the line.)

Oh, THAT reminds me of a great Heidi story:   When she was little, like four years old, the phone rang.  She answered it in the kitchen, and I answered the extension downstairs where I was doing laundry.

When both phones were off the hook, it was hard to hear the caller. It was my mom, so into the phone, I said, "Heidi, please hang up the phone."

She did not.

I said it again, more urgently, "Hang up the phone!"

Nope.

I said it a couple more times, "Heidi! Hang it up!" and she was silent, but still there.

Finally I had to run upstairs to remove her from the line.  As I ran into the kitchen, she pressed the receiver against her chest and with big eyes told me, "A really mean rady says to hang up the phone!"

MEAN RADY?

That's ME!

Oh my goodness.  My mother and I are still laughing about it now almost 25 years later.  She laughs, "You mean rady."

Okay.  If you want these stickers, send me your address and I'll put them in the mail.  There are 12 total.

Last night we had an unexpected party--Chinese food and lots of kids:

And today is Friday and what a great Friday it was:  band and errands, and Starbuck's hot cocoa AGAIN, and then a very fun real estate appointment, then pancakes for supper, and now it's the end of the day.

Happy Friday.   love always, Val
